Paul J. Bolger is an award winning artist, writer, film-maker, and musician. He graduated from WIT in the 1980’s.
He began his film career at Sullivan Bluth Studios on animated movies such as The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven. He then went onto work internationally as a lead animator on Richard Williams classic Thief and the Cobbler and Ralph Baski's Cool World before opening one of the first Irish animation studios, Dagda Film, in 1993.
He has since storyboarded the movies Arthur Christmas and Shaun The Sheep and directed Happily N’Ever After, which starred Sigourney Weaver, George Carlin and Sarah Michelle Gellar. His epic graphic novel HOUND reimagines Cú Chulainn and will get a worldwide release in 2022 via a major international publisher.
Paul has exhibited at Imagine before with SOUND OUT, a show of portraits of local musicians along with other exhibitions at home and abroad. He is a well-respected songwriter and released a self-titled album in 2020, with a follow up record coming soon. Paul’s most recent film role was Production Designer on the Riverdance animated feature film. He continues to paint, write, design and make music from his studios near Waterford City.
