Join us for a very special event which is the Imagine Arts Festival‘s birthday present to the People of Waterford who have supported the Imagine Arts Festival for 21 years!
Imagine invites you to come and have your ‘15 MINUTES OF FAME’ in a POP-UP PORTRAITURE event staged by Artform School of Art. On Sunday 30 October, Artform tutors, renowned for portraiture will offer to sketch fast portraits of passers-by in City Square Waterford.
As the portraits come off the easels throughout the day, they will be exhibited and gradually cover the walls of the City Square space, forming a Pop-up portraiture exhibition. The show will be inaugurated at the conclusion of the day on Sunday evening, where sitters, their friends and families will be invited to come for refreshments and to collect their portraits.
Why ‘15 MINUTES OF FAME’? The famous artist Andy Warhol first introduced the idea that everyone will be able to have their 15 minutes of fame which in today’s digital world of YouTube, Instagram and TikTok now seems very prophetic!
In this event, we want to bring today’s idea of social sharing of people’s portraits back into the world of art while challenging the concept of what a traditional portrait can be. People are used to the idea of portrait paintings in gilded frames in museums or commissioned by ‘celebrities’ or ‘dignitaries’. By capturing the portrait of ‘everyday’ people in the transient medium of charcoal on paper, we want to celebrate the extraordinary in the ordinary, and offer you a short pause in the city where you allow yourself to be observed in a unique act of drawing which you get to take home!
‘15 MINUTES OF FAME’ – POP-UP PORTRAITURE will be held in collaboration with Artform tutors Zsolt Basti and Salvatore of Lucan, two successful young artists, respectively graduates of IADT and NCAD, currently living and working in Dublin. Both artists have exhibited with prestigious galleries and have each had their work included in private and public collections both in Ireland and abroad. Both have been awarded multiple residencies and awards such as Salvatore’s awarding of the 2021 Zurich Portrait Prize and Zsolt’s shortlisting for same in 2022.
