Annika is like a lot of young women arriving from Brazil to live and study in Ireland except perhaps that she is a witch seething with rage and pain after being banished by her coven and family for cruel crimes of “immorality”.
While struggling to conform and settle to life here, Annika encounters two people who will shape her future: Maicon, a headstrong and wild classmate that Annika begins to fall for, and a being that Annika calls Marbleface which is a spirit of a long dead vengeful Irish witch.
MARBLEFACE is a dark descent into the psyche of a tormented young woman who has been cast out of house and home. Mixing occult and supernatural horror with a spectrum of different media, MARBLEFACE promises to be an original and engrossing deep dive into the realms of exile, love, and bitter vengeance.
Yasmin Mello, the director and performer, and Annika could be said to share the feelings of isolation and dislocation from home and through the expressive forms of music, video, monologue, and dance Yasmin channels the chaotic maelstrom of Annika’s feelings and experiences
Marbleface was the winner of Imagine Art’s Festival Open Call ‘Imaginings’ in 2020.
We are delighted to bring Yasmin Mello’s dark yet energetic piece of creativity to the stage at Garter Lane Theatre.
This piece was kindly supported by Echo Echo Dance Company with a Mentorship Programme in 2021 and was awarded the National Dance Residency Partnership 2021 with DanceIreland, Galway Dance Project, Dance LImerick and Firkin Crane.
